Think quick……If I ask you what your Christmas present was last year how quickly can you remember it?  What about the year before?  Or the year before that?  What about other special events…..do you remember what present you rec’d for your 25^th Birthday? Or here is a big one, the BIG 40….do you remember that Christmas present or birthday gift?

Can I confess I couldn’t remember those Christmas or Birthday presents if I had to…..BUT what I do remember are the experiences attached to them… For instance for my 25^th Birthday I treated myself to a trip to the Bahamas….my first plane ride, my first solo vacation…can’t remember a blessed thing I received from anyone, but I do remember the trip I went on…..

Speaking to the men now….. I know how hard we women can be to buy for…..Lord help you if you choose the wrong size article of clothing….If you choose it a size too small, are you saying we are fat, and should lose weight? If you choose it a size to big, are you saying we are fat? And should lose weight?  See what I mean??? From demolition derbys to pig racing, chainsaw artists and pickle eating contests… to enjoying a delicious cream puff and checking out the antique autos,… there’s always something fun going on at the Walworth County Fair! “Let’s go to the fair!!” is my favorite cry and, boy, am I ready!! I just love Fall, and the timing of each year’s fair is such a welcoming event for Autumn! This year’s Walworth County Fair is scheduled from Wednesday, August 31 through Monday, September 5th with adult admission of $9.00 and a daily parking fee of $5.00. I just can’t wait!!

The entertainment scene ranges from the exciting Walworth County Fair’s Country Idol Contest with semi-finals on Wednesday the 31st, and the finals on Thursday the 1st. Also, Walworth County’s own “Senior” Idol performs just before The Doobie Brothers on Sunday, the 4th! That’s right, The Doobie Brothers!! You’ll also find Montgomery Gentry on Friday the 2nd and Rodney Atkins on Saturday the 3rd. all performances begin at 7:30 and are FREE if you sit in the grandstands, otherwise there is preferred seating for which there is a charge. Not a bad deal…

Our Walworth County 4-H’rs have have worked long and hard on projects throughout the year and it’s amazing to see their showcase! From rocketry and computers to photography and chocolate chip cookies – it’s amazing to see their enthusiasm and what they have learned! Congratulations to them and to our future!! Congratulations Moms and Dads, and grandparents, too!!

And, what county fair isn’t complete without a tractor pull contest or a demolition derby?! You can catch the pull on Friday and the derby on Monday! Anyone interested??!!

What fun it is!! …but just for six days!!

Autumn is such a beautiful time to visit the Lake Country! There’s something special about a boat ride on a crisp fall day with the golden oaks and red maples against a forest green canvas! Or, lying under the evening sky in a double hammock and waiting for the moon to make its appearance is so romantic!

I am pleased to announce that our July winner for a free night at Lazy Cloud is Jacqueline Kearns! Congratulations!!

There’s so much going on here in the Lake Country that it will relax your socks off!! Each summer Lake Geneva features a five day Venetian Festival, complete with carnival, craft fair, water ski show, musical entertainment, and lots of good food. But the main event is the festival’s lighted boat parade followed by beautiful fireworks over the lake. It’s something you shouldn’t miss! This year the event starts on August 17th.

If outdoors is your thing, on Saturdays you can enjoy beautiful “Music by the Lake” at George Williams College, or on Thursdays “Concerts in the Park”. Another spectacular event is the Walworth County Fair (my personal favorite) – there’s always something for everyone at the fair!!! You find it in Elkhorn from August 31 through September 5th.  “Art in the Park” continues its 31st annual show this month on August 13th and 14th.

Our Farmer’s Markets are flourishing! You’ll find fresh produce all over the county. There’s also Summer Dinner Theatre: Paragon Springs, the first three weekends of August.

The Centennial Celebration is held in Horticultural Hall from July 31st through August 7th. During this week there will be festivities and activities to celebrate the glories of the bygone era.

And, for the first time ever, you can catch a trolley to Black Point Estate on August 8th. Usually you can only access this historical treat by boat. And, speaking of boat rides…don’t forget the great boat tours, luncheon cruises, and even the wave runners!!

You know where all this fresh air is going to lead you!!
